George Townsend, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC

George Townsend is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner qualified to diagnose, treat, and prescribe medication for children, adolescents, and adults. His specialties encompass a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including ADHD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, panic attacks, schizophrenia, insomnia, and substance addiction.

George’s approach to care blends traditional psychiatric treatments, such as up-to-date medications, with alternative therapies. These natural treatments may include vitamins, supplements, lifestyle modifications, nutrition, exercise, and stress management. He embraces a holistic perspective, believing in the integration of mind, body, and spirit, echoing the philosophy of Hippocrates, the “Father of Medicine.”

Beginning his career in civilian healthcare, George is currently a Nurse Practioner in the US Navy, as a Naval Reserve Officer. After discovering his passion for psychiatry while working in acute hospital settings, he pursued his medical education, earning a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from South University in 2018 and a Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Care from Florida International University. He is currently advancing his expertise by pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a focus on psychiatric mental health.

With over ten years of experience, George has practiced across various healthcare settings, including psychiatry, intensive critical care, and private home care. While much of his background is in pediatrics, he has also worked extensively with military veterans and adult populations.

As a former Greek Orthodox Priest, George brings compassion, empathy, and a profound bedside manner to his practice. His areas of special interest include post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), stress-related disorders, hormone-related mood disorders, and their impact on overall health. His primary focus remains on the mind-body-spiritual connection and its role in health and healing.
